A yogurt oasis, a land dotted with red mangoes, a perfect spot for spooning—Provo is joining the “natural yogurt” craze and now offers an array of choices for frozen yogurt lovers.
Red Mango and Spoon Me are two of the newcomers, both of which possess IKEA-like décor that encourages lingering, a simplistic menu, and comparative pricing.
They’re both hip, healthy hot spots—so what makes them different at all? Gathering loyal followings on their own accord, the two spots are popular based on their unique qualities.
RED MANGO
297 E. University Parkway Orem
Before Pink Berry in Los Angeles or Spoon Me in Utah, there was Red Mango in Korea.
Expanding to the United States in 2007, it’s the original natural yogurt joint that started all the hype. It’s the only one that meets the National Yogurt Association Criteria for Live and Active Culture Yogurt. (A.K.A. the yogurt contains good bacteria that promotes a healthy immune system.)
The 80-calorie-per-serving yogurt is creamy, smooth, and sweet. The dessert doesn’t have a low-calorie taste, yet it is just as healthy as your average Dannon or Yoplait.
Original and green tea yogurt and 16 toppings comprise the menu, along with smoothie “blenders” and the Japanese treat mochi.
Customers can linger and relax next to a warm hearth in the winter and on cool red couches in the summer.
While Spoon Me offers a variety of extra-curricular activities that lure the crowds, at Red Mango, it’s all about the yogurt.
SPOON ME
150 West Bulldog Blvd Provo
Started by Utah resident Ryan Combe, Spoon Me is out to change the world.
It’s quite the daunting task, but Spoon Me hopes to do so by encouraging customers to love their body (one serving of yogurt has less than 90 calories and no artificial sweeteners), the environment (all utensils and garbage bags are 100 percent biodegradable), and the community (stores strive to keep involved with charity projects)—simply by buying yogurt.
Speaking of yogurt, Spoon Me’s comes in three flavors: natural, acai (a Brazialian berry), and green tea (caffeine free, of course). The light, icy, and slightly tangy yogurt can be topped with your choice of 26 tasty crunchies/chewies.
The company also has an organic cotton clothing line and hosts concerts, dances, and other events for its customers—at Spoon Me, acai yogurt topped with Fruity Pebbles is just the beginning.
